What the test can describe

Semen analysis assesses characteristics such as sperm concentration, movement and shape. A result is part of a fertility assessment, not a complete verdict on whether a pregnancy will occur. The laboratory report should be interpreted with a clinician who knows the clinical context.

Follow the collecting laboratory’s instructions

Ask about preparation, collection container, timing, transport and what to do if part of the sample is lost. Tell the laboratory about collection difficulties. Do not borrow instructions from a different clinic or change medicines without clinical advice just to improve a number.

An unexpected result may need confirmation

Ask whether a repeat sample or further investigation is needed and when it should be arranged. Discuss recent illness, medicines and relevant exposures. Comparing tests is most useful when collection conditions and laboratory methods are understood.

Do not use massage as a laboratory shortcut

A change in semen appearance or volume after a session does not establish improved sperm quality. Keep fertility decisions separate from commercial claims about Kasai. If a provider promises a better test, ask for evidence and discuss the claim with the clinician managing your care.
