Start with what you want to know

A person seeking relaxation is asking a different question from someone with a new lump or difficulty conceiving. Traditional bodywork may be described through cultural concepts, but a symptom still needs an appropriate medical assessment. Do not use a spiritual explanation as a diagnosis.

Different outcomes require different evidence

A report of comfort is not the same as a laboratory change, symptom improvement or prevention of disease. Ask whether a claim concerns a short-lived sensation or a measured health outcome, and whether evidence comes from the same technique and comparable people.

Combine care through communication

If you use a complementary service, tell your clinician what it involves. Keep prescribed treatment and follow-up appointments unless the treating professional changes the plan. Ask about interactions or restrictions after surgery; do not stop medication on a massage provider’s advice.

Choose the right next step

For booking questions, use our practitioner checklist. For symptoms, use the safety guides to decide when to seek care, not to label your own condition. For sudden severe testicular pain, the next step is emergency assessment.
